The art scene in the Weymouth and Portland area is fairly understated at present and several art galleries can be found in and around this seaside town. Amongst the most notable, the Leighton Art Gallery on Trinity Street is run by local Weymouth artists and has become well known in this area for its stylish paintings.

The Eastern Art Gallery on Abbotsbury Road is also worth a look and sells a range of inexpensive art works, as does the nearby Graham V Bundy Gallery along Rodden Row. Here are the top art galleries both in and around Weymouth.

One of the most prominent local galleries of its kind, the Leighton Art Gallery can be found in a historic listed building, close to the Old Harbour's quayside area of Weymouth. This spacious gallery sells a number of limited edition prints by famous artists, sculptures in various mediums, and both ceramics and glass, but is best known for its paintings by owner Martin J. Leighton, who opened this exhibition space in 2003. Portrait commissions are always on offer here.

Weymouth Art Galleries: Monkton Gallery - Winterborne Monkton, Dorset, England, UK
The unique Monkton Gallery is located just 10 km / 6 miles north of Weymouth, in the nearby hamlet of Winterborne Monkton and close to the A354. Opened in 2002 by a group of local artists, the Monkton Gallery is housed within a revamped Victorian school building and features a diverse selection of art works, all of which are full sale and include paintings, glass works, mirrors, ceramics, sculptures and jewellery. A range of workshops are available throughout the year and seasonal events and exhibitions regularly take place at the gallery, especially during the busy summer months.
