Getting to the seaside resort of Weymouth is easy and the best method of public transport around the town centre is bus, with two centrally located bus stations available. Further afield, National Express coaches and numerous trains travel to many points of interest, while high-speed Condor ferry transport travels to the Channel Islands on a daily basis.

Driving around Weymouth is one of the easiest ways to travel and many points of interest are just a short distance away, including the Isle of Portland and the town of Dorchester. However, hiring a bicycle has become an increasingly popular and inexpensive travel option in recent years. Here are Weymouth's main types of public transport and travel.

Weymouth is well connected to many major cities around the world by a series of regional airports, all of which are easy to travel to. Airports close to Weymouth all feature a good selection of ground transport and are as follows:

Located on the southern side of Dorset and off the busy A354, Weymouth is easy to reach by car and to travel around, with a number of centrally located car parks. Other prominent 'A' roads nearby include the A35 between Exeter and Poole, the A37 to Yeovil, and the A31 to the city of Southampton, via the New Forest National Park. Those driving to the ferry station will find it clearly signposted along the way. Car rental transport companies situated within the borough are as follows:

There are two main bus services in the centre of Weymouth, both of which provide regular bus transport, travelling around much of the town and to many nearby areas, including Abbotsbury, Dorchester, Poole, Swanage and Yeovil. Also of interest, buses travel to Lyme Regis in just over one hour, to Exeter in approximately one hour and 25 minutes, and to Salisbury in one hour and 45 minutes.

The terminals can be found on Commercial Road and next to the famous Kings Statue along the Esplanade and close to the tourism office. On football match days, there is a special Wessex Bus service, with a number of buses travelling between the seafront and the Wessex Stadium, both before and after the game. National Express coaches also offer daily travel and relatively inexpensive rates to London, Dorchester and Lyme Regis.

The town's train station can be found along King Street and is close to both Commercial Road, the Jubilee Retail Park and the beach. Managed by South West Trains, regular services travel around the area, with popular destinations including London Waterloo via Southampton (two hours and 45 minutes), Bournemouth (one hour), Bath Spa (two hours) and Bristol Temple Meads (two hours and 30 minutes). A rank of taxis can usually be found operating outside of the train station.

The ferry terminal in Weymouth can be found close to Custom House and both short-term and long-term car parking is available here. Condor Ferries provide fast catamaran car ferry transport to St. Peter Port on Guernsey and St. Helier on Jersey. From these two Channel Islands, further ferries are available to nearby St. Malo in France and also to Poole, which is around 51 km / 32 miles from Weymouth.

Weymouth is a great place to cycle around and many people staying here during the summer months choose to rent a bicycle to explore the area. Cycles are a great way to travel to the town's shops from surrounding camping sites and can be rented on a daily or weekly basis at the Cycle Hire shop along Abbotsbury Road.
